Actions are judged by intentions so each man will have what he intended. He whose migration was to Allah and his messenger, his migration is to Allah and His Messenger, but he whose migration was for some worldly thing he might gain, or for a wife he might marry, is migration is to that for which he migrated."
(Bukhari and Muslim)
Heard this Hadith since Sunday school in first grade? Heard it at the beginning of fundraisers? We heard it, we have it memorized but let’s see how we can apply it:
The word Niyyah in Arabic has two meanings:
The intention before an Ibadah
The willingness
While we focus or try our best to focus on any ibadah we do – it is important to evaluate our sincerity in every good deed. How do we make sure that we are completely sincere in our actions? We need to make sure that we do not have any self-desire in that deed. We need to make sure that whatever we are doing is only for the sake of Allah-or with Ikhlas (pure intention). The self-check for sincerity can help us assess our own ikhlas- its not our business to assess others.
